Pacers Complete Ammons Tournament with Win Over Bennett

Raleigh, NC - The Peace College basketball team secured a strong 69-39 win over Greensboro's Bennett College in the consolation round of the Pacers' Tenth Annual Jackie Ammons Memorial Tournament Saturday. Visiting Salisbury University (MD) earned the tournament championship award with a 61-42 battle over Salem College. Karissa Herring earned the all-tournament nod for Peace.

Both teams struggled to get their offense going in the early minutes of the game with Peace only up 6-5 at 15:35. The Pacers jumped ahead during the next five minutes on a 13-point run capped off with a jumper from sophomore Rebecca Davis, assisted by Herring.

PC's 44.4% shooting from behind the arc in the first period helped keep the Bells at bay with Peace up by 16 at the break.

The Pacers continued to shoot well in the final 20 minutes of regulation, including two more from three-point range. Candra Hill notched three of the team's six in only four attempts.

Herring scored a game-high 14 points, adding three rebounds and two steals. Senior LeAnne Horne picked up six steals with 13 points. Point guard Megan Bridges tallied four steals and four points in the win.

The Pacer bench contributed 35 of the team's 69 points, including 12 from first-year Mia Sloan. Senior Brenna Mickey grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. Davis picked up two buckets and two steals in her ten minutes of play.

Bennett's Janay Walker earned an all-tournament spot with six points and three rebounds in today's action. Teammate Asia Smith notched a team-high 12 points, adding five rebounds. Keley Smith grabbed seven rebounds and picked up a steal in the tournament loss.

Peace remains at home for a non-conference match-up versus Piedmont Bible College Tuesday, November 24. The game is slated to tip-off at 7:00 pm in the Hermann Student Center. See you on the sidelines!
