Pacers Drop League Opener to Ferrum
Raleigh, NC - The Peace College (2-2) basketball team lost their USA South Conference opener 75-46 to a fluid Ferrum College (4-1) team. The Pacers opened the game well and held the visiting Panthers by as many as seven in the first period. Ferrum went on a 10-3 run to tie the game at just under five minutes left in the half. Leading PC scorer Karissa Herring tallied four points in the final minutes but the Panthers had taken control of the game for good with an 11-point halftime lead.
Peace kept Ferrum within reach with even scoring in the first five minutes after intermission. The nets went cold for the Pacers, including seven missed free throws, to seal the dominating win for the Panthers.
Herring finished with 17 points and eight rebounds. Senior forward Brenna Mickey notched eight from the field, adding three rebounds and two steals. First-year Angel Fuller grabbed seven rebounds in her first start of the season.
Ferrum's Tonya Wright earned the game's only double-double with 17 points, ten rebounds. Three other Panthers tallied double figure scoring to lead the visitors to a 1-0 league start. Kristen Keith led all with 22 points and fell just shy of a double-double with nine rebounds.
Peace follows tonight hosting Christopher Newport University Saturday. CNU finished second during last year's regular season and captured the tournament championship. The USA South game is slated to tipoff at 2:00 pm. See you on the sidelines!
