Peace Basketball Secures Win at Hollins
Roanoke, VA - The Peace Pacers (3-3) basketball team earned a much needed 64-61 road win over Hollins University (1-4) today. HU led the first half by as many as nine points. Peace gained momentum going into the half and sealed a non-conference win on four free throws, a steal, and one of two key jumpers from Rebecca Davis.
Davis stole the ball with 1:33 remining in the first period to setup her first pivotal shot. She followed Brenna Mickey's missed layup for an offensive rebound and a putback to give Peace a two-point lead going into the break. The Pacers entered the intermission down by one but the stage was set for a second-half comeback.
In the first minute of the second half, Mickey gave her team an early one-point. Peace managed a five-point spread on two free throws from LeAnne Horne with just under 13 minutes remaining in regulation, but Hollins battled back to take a one-point lead in the final minutes of play. The Pacers held steadfast and buried four free throws in the final seconds to seal the win, including two from Margaret Minton who went 4-4 from the stripe.
Davis tallied a season-high eight points, adding six rebounds. Karissa Herring notched her first double-double with a team-high 17 points and 11 rebounds, adding three steals. Mickey finished with eight points, three rebounds.
Hollins' Jasmine Green tallied a game-high twenty points, adding 10 rebounds and seven steals. Teammates Tamara Phillips and Kendra McCain added 13 apiece.
Peace travels to Greensboro, NC, Wednesday to face Guilford College in the final game of 2009. The team returns to the Hermann Student Center January 2 to host Averett University at 2:00 pm. See you on the sidelines!
