Quakers Cruise Past Peace

Greensboro, NC - The Quakers of Guilford College (5-3) cruised past Peace College (3-4) in tonight's non-conference action after holding just a one-point lead at the half.  The Pacers maintained that spread with just under 13 minutes remaining in regulation.  But Guilford's 41 percent second-half field goal percentage proved too much for Peace.

The Quakers pushed an eight-point lead with just under nine minutes remaining in the first half.  Standout offense from Pacers Brenna Mickey and Megan Bridges kept Peace in the game.  Bridges knocked down a three-point bucket at the two-minute mark and the defense held.

Mickey tied the game on a jumper assisted by teammate LeAnne Hornein the early seconds after the intermission.  But a 15-2 Quaker run pushed the lead back up to 14 with just under six remaining in regulation.

Mickey tallied 10 points from the stripe to finish with a team-high 14, adding eight rebounds.  Bridges hit 2-2 form behind the arc for a 13-point finish.  She added three assists and a steal in the loss.

Guilford's Jazlyn Gibbs led her team with a game-high 17 points.  Teammates Alexa Williams and Ann Suefer combined for 22 to help seal the win.

The Pacer basketball team returns to action before classes resume in January to host Averett University.  Tip-off is slated for 2:00 pm at the Hermann Center on Saturday, January 2.  See you on the sidelines!
