Pacers Steal Win in OT

Winston-Salem, NC -- The Peace College (6-7) basketball team battled back from a 12-point second-period deficit to force tonight's game at Salem College (5-7) into overtime.  The Spirits had the ball in the final seconds of regulation, but LeAnne Horne and the Pacer defense forced a turnover to leave the game tied at 62.  The teams tied on three more occasions in OT before Horne stole the ball and scored to put her team up by two with just a few seconds remaining.  Once again the Pacer defense held to seal the 2-point victory.

Peace outrebounded Salem 31-20 in the first half to stay as close as nine at the break and continued that trend in the second period.  Excessive fouling put the Pacers in jeopardy late in the game.  But senior Brenna Mickey gave her team strong effort in the final four minutes of regulation to keep her team in the game.

Mickey earned her first double-double of the season with 12 rebounds, 14 points.  Karissa Herring added one of her own with 14 rebounds, 15 points.  First-year forward Angel Fuller battled inside to grab 12 rebounds, adding five points.  Horne notched four steals in the win, adding five assists and 13 points.

Four of Salem's players reached double-digit scoring with Kelsey Rector topping all at 18.  Michaela Michaux added 11 with four steals in the loss.

Peace remains on the road this weekend to face USA South foes Shenandoah University and Mary Baldwin College, Saturday and Sunday respectively.  Listen live to the Hornets broadcast Saturday.  Both games are slated to tipoff at 2:00 pm.  The team returns to the Hermann Center Wednesday, January 27 to host North Carolina Wesleyan at 7:00 pm.  See you on the sidelines!
