Hornets Cruise Past Peace
Winchester, VA -- The Hornets of Shenandoah University reserved no mercy in today's 77-50 USA South win over Peace College. SU outshot the Pacers 46.2% to 28.8% on the game to enjoy an easy offensive advantage. Peace's leading scorer Karissa Herring recorded the only double-digit scoring for her team compared to three for the Hornets, including game leader Alexis Hargbol with 22.
Four back-to-back missed opportunities carried Peace into the locker room down by 14 at the half. And the Hornets returned to the court with vengeance after the break to push the lead to as many as 32.
In spite of the loss, Peace continued to gain solid minutes from the bench. Senior Emma Weavil returned to the court again today, adding five points and two assists in her 17 minutes of play. Weavil went 2-2 from the stripe. First-year's Megan Sherrill and Angel Fuller notched six rebounds apiece for the Pacers. Starting point guard Megan Bridges added eight points, two assists, and two rebounds in the loss.
Shenandoah's Hargbol grabbed 12 rebounds to complete the only double-double on the day. Teammates Mandy Johnston and Stephanie Holton tallied a combined 30 points and Crystal Williams topped all with eight assists.
Peace travels South to Staunton, Virginia, for Sunday's 2:00 pm matchup with Mary Baldwin College. The Squirrels enter tomorrow's action with a two-game winning streak. The Pacers return to the Hermann Center Wednesday, January 27, to face North Carolina Wesleyan. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 pm. See you on the sidelines!
