Peace Loses Battle to Bishops
Rocky Mount, NC -- The Peace College basketball squad made a second-half comeback only to come up short with a 51-50 loss against the Battling Bishops of N.C. Wesleyan. The Bishops defeated Peace for the fourth consecutive time in Everett Gymnasium and snapped a twenty-two game losing streak on the win. LeAnne Horne dropped in 11 points tonight to make her mark on Peace College basketball as a member of the 1000-point club. Horne set the college record for career steals earlier in the season and currently holds 55 this season.
Aside from one tied score on a layup from senior Pacer Brenna Mickey in the opening six minutes of the game, the first half was all Bishops. The hosts took that momentum into the half up by seven.
NCWC pushed their lead to 13 with just over 13 minutes remaining in regulation before Peace turned up the heat.
Full-court defensive pressure helped the Pacers secure an 18-1 run to claim a four-point lead with just 3:36 remaining. But lack of patience in the front court and continued issues at the free throw line kept Peace from closing the deal.
Karissa Herring tallied nine points and four steals with teammate Margaret Minton adding eight. Mickey grabbed seven rebounds and added seven points in the loss. First-year Rachel Lyons nailed a big three to give the Pacers their largest lead and continues to improve on the court.
The Bishops Samantha Urquhart grabbed 10 rebounds, adding eight points. Desiree' Driver and Tiffani Porter added nine apiece to lead the Bishops' offensive effort.
Peace travels to Ferrum College Saturday to wrap-up the conference regular season. Tipoff is slated for 2:00 pm with the Pacer broadcast opening up at 1:30 from Swartz Gym. Join Peace Sunday afternoon for Senior Day versus Salem College in the final home contest of the season. Head Coach Kelly Johnson leads a celebration of his four seniors beginning at 1:25 pm before the game. See you on the sidelines!
