Ferrum, N.C. - The Ferrum College Panthers (2-2), picked second in the preseason coaches poll, gave Peace (3-2) their first USA South loss in tonight's 91-66 league opener. Angel Fuller set the tone for the Pacers with 7-8 shooting from the floor and 10 rebounds in the loss.
Karissa Herring finally scored PC's 10th point with just 9:34 remaining in the first period compared to Ferrum's 24.
The final eight minutes of the half proved just as challenging in spite of strong efforts from Fuller and Herring. PC entered the break down by 19.
Peace evened the scoring in the second half, allowing Ferrum just a six-point advantage during the 20 minutes of play, but could not rebound from the early deficit.
Fuller led the Pacers with 16 points, and Herring added 14 points with nine rebounds. Point guard Megan Bridges dished out four assists and dropped in seven points, including 5-7 from the stripe. Rebecca Davis added nine points and Megan Sherrill tallied four assists and five points for Peace.
Five Panthers finished in double figures with Katy Kipps leading the pack at 17. Kristen Keith led all with seven assists in the win.
Peace travels next to #3 Christopher Newport University for a tough USA South pairing versus the reigning league champs. Patrick Johnson's "Pacer Countdown to Tipoff" begins at 6:30 on the live broadcast. The team returns to the Hermann Center Sunday, December 5, for a non-conference game versus Hollins slated to begin at 3:00 pm. See you on the sidelines!
