Peace drops basketball opener
Raleigh, N.C. – The Barber-Scotia Lady Sabers used a 14-0 run to start the second half to spoil the 2011-2012 debut of the Peace Pacers with a 46-39 win Tuesday night.
Shanice Warren led all scorers with 11 points to pace the Sabers. Five of her 11 came in the big run to start the second half, including a three-point bucket that gave Barber-Scotia a 37-20 lead.
The Pacers (0-1) were done in by poor shooting, as they hit just 28 percent of their field goal attempts for the game. They also struggled from the charity stripe, as they converted just 11 of 29 foul shots.
All nine players scored for Peace. Rachel Lyons was the team's top scorer with 8 points while Krystal Williams added 7 before fouling out.
The Pacers return to action Friday night in the annual Jackie Ammons Memorial Tournament. They host the Salem Spirits with tip-off slated for 8:00 following the Guilford-Concordia (Minn.) opener.
