Alston's 21 not enough as Ferrum downs Peace
The Ferrum Panthers jumped out to an 8-0 lead and cruised to an 80-55 win over the Peace Pacers Saturday afternoon in a USA South Conference game at the Hermann Student Center.
Twelve different players scored for the Panthers (6-1, 2-0), led by Katy Kipps who had 15 points. Tesla Akers added 10 for the winners.
Once again, Peace was done in by poor shooting, as it connected on just 5-32 shots in the opening half.
The Pacers (0-6, 0-2) played the game with only seven players, as Derrica Jones and Shantay Silva both suffered injuries in Peace's last game against N.C. Wesleyan.
In the opening half, Ferrum overwhelmed Peace with crisp ball movement, which led to easy shots. It was a stark contrast to when the Pacers had the ball, as Peace struggled to get into any offensive rhythm whatsoever in the opening 20 minutes.
After intermission, the Pacers did a much better job of moving without the ball, which led to some open looks. In the first half, Peace had a 16% field goal percentage but in the second half the Pacers converted on 12-31 shots for a 39% average.
Crystal Alston led Peace with 21 points, including four 3-point buckets. Krystal Williams added 10 points.
The Pacers return to action on Sunday, as they travel to Hollins for a non-conference game with a 3:00 PM tip. After another road game on Wednesday against Salem, Peace returns home for a game December 17 versus Loras.
