Duhawks down Pacers by 25

Raleigh, N.C. – With first semester exams behind them, the Peace Pacers returned to the court for the first time in 10 days Saturday afternoon and dropped a 62-37 decision to the Loras Duhawks at the Hermann Student Center.

Katie Wheeler came off the bench to hit 5-12 shots for Loras (5-5) for a game-high 13 points. Starter Katie Langmeier had 9 points and 10 rebounds while Brittany Kent also added 9 points for the winners.

Meanwhile for Peace (1-8) it was more of the same woes that have plagued the team all season long. The Pacers missed seven of their first eight shots from the floor and also turned the ball over five times in the first seven minutes of the game.

The Duhawks converted 44.4 percent of their shots from the floor in the opening 20 minutes and raced out to a 33-19 halftime lead.

Peace settled down after intermission and played on an even footing for the first 13 minutes of the second half. But Loras closed the game on a 15-5 run for the final 25-point margin.

For the fourth straight game, Peace played with just seven people. Derrica Jones returned to action, although she was clearly still not 100 percent. However, Megan Bridges was not available to the Pacers.

Jones and Crystal Alston tied for top scoring honors for the Pacers with 10 points apiece. Even while struggling to get up and down the court, Jones gave the Duhawks fits whenever she got the ball in a half-court set.

Both teams showed the affects of the long layoff, as Peace had 31 turnovers and Loras had 28. But the Duhawks held two big advantages in the game. The visitors shot the ball better and they controlled the backboards with a 41-22 rebounding edge.

It's another long layoff for the Pacers, as their next game is not until January 4th. Peace returns to conference action, as it hosts Greensboro to open up the second half of the season. The Pride are currently the No. 22 team in the country according to the latest d3hoops.com poll.
