Pacers suffer second straight two-point setback
Winchester, Va. – For the second time in two days, the Peace Pacers suffered a two-point conference loss, this time coming up on the short end of a 45-43 score versus the Shenandoah Hornets Sunday afternoon.
Peace jumped out to a 28-15 halftime lead but Shenandoah went on a 27-6 run in the second half while the Pacers turned the ball over time and time again.
A layup by Nicole Gilbertson made it 35-34 Hornets with 8:02 remaining in the game, the first lead of the game by Shenandoah since 4-3 early in the first half.
A jumper by Crystal Alston on the next possession put Peace back on top but it was the last lead of the game for the Pacers, as the Hornets went on a 7-0 run, aided by three turnovers by the visitors.
Gilbertson hit all six shots she took and finished with a team-high 12 points for Shenandoah (5-7, 2-3).
Once again, poor shooting and turnovers did in Peace (1-11, 0-5). The Pacers finished with 27 turnovers and shot 28.8 percent from the floor.
Alston led Peace with 17 points, including five 3-pointers, and 11 rebounds.
The Pacers shot a respectable 35.3 percent from behind the arc, but made just one of seven shots from long distance after halftime.
Peace returns to action Wednesday night when it travels to Methodist for a 7:00 game.
