Late rally for Pacers against Bishops comes up short

Raleigh, N.C. – The Peace Pacers furious second half rally came up short and they fell to the North Carolina Wesleyan Battling Bishops, 68-61, Tuesday night at the Hermann Center.

The Bishops (8-7, 5-5) held a 15-point lead with 4:50 remaining but the Pacers embarked on an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to just four points with 1:55 left in the game.  Krystal Williams had five of the 11 points for Peace in the late run.

The lead was still four points with 55 seconds remaining but Wesleyan ran 22 seconds off the clock before Linesha Tinsley was fouled. The Bishops' center went to the line and knocked down both free throws.

The Pacers turned the ball over on their next possession. Wesleyan converted three out of four foul shots in the final 15 seconds to clinch the win.

Shanice Goree led Wesleyan with 15 points.

Peace (2-15, 1-9) played much better than it did against the Bishops in Rocky Mount early in the season, when it came away with a 14-point loss.

The Pacers held an 18-17 lead midway through the first half but were outscored, 21-7 over the final 10:50 of the first half, which allowed Wesleyan to take a 38-25 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Peace called off its full-court pressure and forced Wesleyan to play more in the half court. But the Pacers were unable to cut into the lead due to several missed layups after intermission.

But Peace fought hard throughout the game and put a scare into the visitors down the stretch before running out of time and coming up just short.

Crystal Alston led the Pacers with 18 points while Derrica Jones had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Williams gave Peace three scorers in double figures as she tallied 12 points. Callie Yohn added 12 rebounds and 5 blocks.

The Pacers hit the road for their next game against Ferrum, which tips off at 2:00 PM on Saturday.
