Scotties Hand Peace a Loss
Raleigh, NC—Peace dropped their second match of the season against a solid Agnes Scott squad in the Meredith Matchup 2009 today 6-0. The Scotties improved to 1-1 on the season while the Pacers fell to 0-2 overall.
The Scotties outshot Peace only 20-15 in today’s loss, but the Pacers inexperienced goal continues to challenge their defensive efforts. First-year Devin Gravgaard (Elizabeth City, NC) led her team with eight saves in the loss. Teammates Brittany Lynn (Raleigh, NC), Elizabeth Gaskins (Roanoke Rapids, NC), and Courtney Butler (Lewisville, NC) assisted their keepers in the back field but could not stave off their opponent’s attack.
First-year Melissa Moran (Raleigh, NC) fought hard for Peace. She and teammate senior Randal McLean (Lumberton, NC) led with four shots apiece. Veteran Harlonda Smith (Huntersville, NC) added three strong opportunities but could not manage to score.
The Scotties spread out their offensive
strike among three players; Clara Kienzie, Kelsey Shaul, and Briana
Karettis each added two goals in the win. Keeper Ashley Watts
earned 10 saves for her team.
The
Pacers take on the Salem College Spirits in a rematch tomorrow
afternoon in day-two of the Matchup. First kick slated for
3:00 pm at the Meredith Athletic Park. See you on the
sidelines!
