Hornets Sting the Pacers
Raleigh, NC-The Peace College soccer team dropped a tough battle against the Hornets of Shenandoah University today at WakeMed Soccer Park 8-1. Peace dropped to 1-1 in league play. SU improved to 5-6-2 overall (2-1-1 USAS).
The Hornets pulled ahead early, scoring on each of their first three shots. Kirsten Olson, Amber Womack, and Jessi Dennis each earned a goal with an assist for Womack and Dennis. Nicole Gilbertson put one more in the net for her team in the first period, assisted by Olson.
At just over five minutes remaining in the first half, PC's Melissa Moran (Raleigh, NC) netted a point for Peace on a corner kick from teammate Randal McLean (Lumberton, NC). Unfortunately, Peace would not score again.
Shenandoah added to their early lead four more times after the intermission.
Peace plays on the road next weekend beginning with Ferrum College Friday, October 9, and Averett University Sunday. Join the Pacers Saturday and Sunday, October 17 and 18, for a two-date home series versus the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan and Christopher Newport. Both matches will be held on field two at WakeMed Soccer Park. The six seniors will be recognized Sunday before the 2:00 pm start. See you on the sidelines!
