Ferrum, VA-The Panthers of Ferrum College defeated Peace in tonight's league match in Virginia 4-0. The win marked the first in USA South action for Ferrum. Peace dropped to 1-2 in conference play.
Peace held their opponents scoreless in the first period and through just under 12 minutes of the second. Natalie Olson put the Panthers on the scoreboard with a penalty kick. Teammate Kara Pegram, assisted by Gabby Dobbs, added the second seven minutes later.
Peace held Ferrum for the next 20 minutes before the Pacer defense allowed Niesha Burnett to score, assisted by Olivia Callahan. Panther Lea McMillian found the net with less than a minute left to seal her team's 4-0 win over Peace.
The Pacers were allowed only eight opportunities at the net in the loss. Seniors Haley Bright (Snow Hill, NC), Mary Caitlin Smith (Lumberton, NC), and Jennifer Gilbert (Burlington, NC) recorded two apiece.
Peace closes out fall break at Averett University Sunday, October 11. First kick is slated for 4:00 pm in Danville. The team returns to Raleigh next weekend for a two-date home series starting with North Carolina Wesleyan Saturday at 2:00 pm at WakeMed Soccer Park's field two. See you on the sidelines!
