Pacers Play Hard for Seniors

Raleigh, NC-The Peace College (1-12, 1-5 USAS) soccer team lost today's USA South pairing 8-1 versus the league leader Christopher Newport University (7-6-2, 5-0-1 USAS).  Head Coach Kelly McEleney and her team celebrated six Pacer seniors before the match began.

The Captains' Emily Chesbro opened the scoring early, but Peace matched her effort just a minute later.  Senior Haley Bright (Snow Hill, NC) scored off a corner kick from teammate Randal McLean (Lumberton, NC) with help from Brittany Lynn (Raleigh, NC).

The Pacers held on to the tie with solid defensive pressure during the next ten minutes of play before CNU's Kendall Dishaw scored on an assist from Meghan Arbegast.  Teammate Sam Ciarivino added the Captain's third two minutes later.  Katie Jaywork placed a corner kick in the goal in the final seconds of the period to give the visitors a 4-1 lead at the break.

CNU added four more in the second half to seal the 8-1 win.  Britta McDonnell tallied two goals with help from Lindsey Lienau.  Candace Thompson and Tiffany Van Decker added one apiece to complete the scoring.
Peace College goalie Sherry Revels (Apex, NC) played well in the goal today against an impressive offense.  She notched 19 saves on the match.

Peace travels to Greensboro College and then Methodist University next weekend before returning to Raleigh for the final match of the regular season.  Peace travels cross-town to meet Meredith in the rivals' pink game Friday evening, October 30.  First kick is slated for 7:00 pm.  See you on the sidelines!
