NC – The 5th seeded Peace College tennis team was eliminated
from the USA South Conference Tournamen by the 4th seeded
Greensboro College team 4-5. Peace ends the 2006-07 campaign with
an overall record of 7-12, 3-4 in the USA South. Greensboro (6-8,
4-3) will advance in tournament play, as they will face #1 seeded
Christopher Newport University tomorrow at 2:00 pm.
In doubles action, Peace picked up a win at the #3 flight as Lucy
Mauney (Kitty Hawk, NC/Manteo) and partner Kristin Robison (Teachy,
NC/Harrells Christian) defeated Crystal DiBella and Michelle
Lemmons 8-4. At the #1 flight, Liza Bridgers (Wilson,
NC/Greenfield) and Anna Jane Hesmer (Wilson, NC/Fike) dropped to
Carrie Pacifico and Susan Harris 8-3. Michelle Atkinson (Lumberton,
NC/Lumberton) and Ellen Smith (Lexington, NC/W. Davidson) dropped
the final doubles match 8-2 to Caroline Rose and Elizabeth Nichols
8-2.
In singles play Peace picked up three more wins at the 2, 5, and 6
flights as Hesmer defeated Harris at the #2 flight 6-2, 3-6, 6-0.
Robison defeated Nichols at the 5 flight 6-3, 6-0. At the 6 flight,
Mauney defeated DiBella 6-2, 6-0. Bridgers (#1) was defated by
Pacifico 6-0, 6-0, Smith (#3) was defeated by Rose 6-2, 6-2 and
Atkinson (#4) was defeated by Lemmons 7-5, 6-2.
