Peace Tennis Opens at Ragland

Raleigh, NC -- The novice Pacer tennis team opened the 2010 season with an 8-1 loss to visiting Salem College this afternoon under bitter cold and windy conditions.

Sophomore veteran Kristen Starnes and the only member of the team who returned from the 2009 season, earned a tough 8-1 loss at the number one doubles spot with senior newcomer Haley BrightElizabeth Burns and Brittany Lynn put up a fight but lost 8-5 at number two.  Number three doubles Naomi King and Whitney McMillan, both new to competitive tennis, recorded a loss.

Bright earned her first-ever collegiate tennis win defeating Salem's Ashley Bodford at number three singles.  Bright opened the set down 5-0 before gaining momentum for a 6-4 finish.  She took the second set to tie the match and pulled out a 10-8 third set tiebreaker for the loan Pacer win.  Burns opened her number two singles match down 6-3 in the first set.  She rallied to take the second 6-2 before falling 10-2 in set three.

Peace travels Monday to Guilford College before returning to the Ragland courts Wednesday to host Randolph College.  Both matches are slated to start at 3:30 pm.  See you on the sidelines!
