Pacers Win No. 1 Singles; Fall to Baldwin

Raleigh, NC -- The Peace (0-7, 0-5 USAS) tennis squad dropped today's USA South match 8-1 to visiting Mary Baldwin (2-9, 2-5 USAS).

Leading the way for the Pacers was No. 1 singles player Kristen Starnes.  Starnes took set one 6-4 and opened the second with a win.  MBC's Renee Miller won the next four games and forced a deciding set with a 6-4 finish.  Starnes persevered to win the tiebreaker 7-5 for the lone Pacer win on the day.

No. 3 Haley Bright opened her singles match down 6-2.  She battled back to win the second set 6-2 and forced a tiebreaker.  Opponent Ania Grazynska took the match winning 4-7 in the final set.

Bright and Starnes paired up for a competitive battle at No. 1 doubles.  Peace had a 5-4 lead before the Fighting Squirrels moved ahead and took the 8-6 win.

First-year No. 6 singles player Naomi King forced notable rallies in her first league match of the season and only her third career match.

Head Coach Kathy Jacobs and her team honored seniors Bright and Brittany Lynn just prior to today's match.  Senior manager Elizabeth Evanoff earned cheers from her team as well.  This marks the first collegiate tennis season for both Bright and Lynn.  Bright lettered four seasons in Peace soccer and Lynn four in basketball and two in soccer.  Both tallied a host of honors in each of their respective sports.

Join the Pacers as they face Ferrum College Monday, April 5, beginning at 2:30 pm.  This conference match versus the Panthers will be the final regular season match at Ragland Courts this spring.  See you on the sidelines!
