Pacer Volleyball Claims 2nd, All-Tournament Team Award

Washington, DC--Peace College traveled to Gallaudet University for a 2-day tournament with host GU, Marymount University, D'Youville College, and Salem College. The Pacers finished 3-1 for the tournament to bring home the Runner-Up plaque. Senior setter Erin Pike earned her spot on the All-Tournament team.

In Friday afternoon's first match, the Bisons of Gallaudet swept the Pacers 3-0 (30-15, 30-16, 30-15). Junior Stephanie Sports led the team with 12 digs. First-year Kerra Gore recorded 7 blocks and 2 kills in the loss. Pike had a solid match with 3 assists, 11 Digs, and 2 aces. Senior setter Bridget Corbitt recorded 9 assists, 1 ace, and 5 digs for the Pacers.

At 6:00pm the Pacers faced the Saints of Marymount University of Virginia. Peace won the first game 32-30 and rallied in game 4 (30-27) to tie the match 2-2. Peace won a tight game 5 to decide the win for the Pacers. First-Year notables Breanne Hinnant and Mary Wickre led the Pacers to the win. Hinnant recorded 11 Kills, 1 block, and 5 digs. Wickre led Peace with 23 digs as the defensive specialist. Gore put down 10 balls and had 9 blocks from the middle. Senior outside Nicole Corn recorded 11 kills for the match. Pike had a team-high 17 assists in the win.

Saturday the Pacers started early with the Spartans of D'Youville College. Peace defeated the Spartans in 4 (3-1; 26-30, 30-23, 30-25, 30-27). Stephanie Sports led with 19 digs for the Pacers. Woodard added another solid match to her weekend with a team-high 17 kills, 2 blocks, 2 aces, and 5 digs. Gore added 12 kills and 12 blocks from the middle. Pike added 26 assists, 3 digs, and an ace to her weekend totals.

Peace finished the weekend defeating the Lady Bears of North Carolina rival Salem College for the 3rd time this year (3-1; 32-30, 27-30, 31-29, 30-13). This win earned Peace the runner-up slot. Woodard led the offense and defense with 12 kills and 16 digs. Gore added 10 kills and 15 blocks in the frontline attack. Hinnant added 9 kills and 8 digs to her solid totals for the tournament. Pike had 11 assists for her team.

Peace will face Salem for the final time this year Tuesday evening in Winston-Salem at 7:00pm. The Pacers are back in action at home in a week on October 13 hosting a USA South Tri-match with Shenandoah and NC Wesleyan. Peace plays at noon and 5:00pm.

Peace College's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will collect canned foods at this tournament. Thank you for your donations.
