Pacers Win One; Lose One
Winchester, VA—Peace traveled to Shenandoah University for a USA South Tri-Match with North Carolina Wesleyan College (NCWC) to finish the day 13-11 overall, 4-8 in conference play. Shenandoah dropped to 6-17 overall and 0-12 in the USA South with two losses. The Battling Bishops of NCWC walked away with two wins to hold their second-place status in the conference standings (20-6, 11-2).
The Hornets forced Peace to a four-set-win in match one. The Pacers held on to set one 29-27 and took the next quickly 25-13. The Hornets finished the third with a 25-16 win over Peace before the Pacers captured the match with a 25-14 fourth-set win.
Match two went to the Bishops after a five-set battle with Peace. Peace took set one and forced a fifth with a 27-25 finish in the fourth. The Bishops regained control of the match with a 15-7 deciding set to take the win. The Bishops finished off the day with a three-set win over Shenandoah.
First-year Amber Lowe (Cedar Grove, NC) led Peace with 27 kills, 30 digs, and 3 service aces for the day. Sophomore Kelli Woodard (Sylva, NC) added 16 kills, 30 digs, and 4 blocks. Brooke Newsome (Goldsboro, NC) led Peace with 50 assists, 28 digs, and 4 aces, including a team-high 3 against the Hornets. Libero Lynnette Monroe (Raleigh, NC) grabbed 32 digs from the backline. Senior middle Paige Atkins (Lillington, NC) notched five of the team’s eight blocks for Peace in match one.
The Pacers return home to the Hermann
Student Center Tuesday night to face a rematch against The Pride of
Greensboro College. The team remains in Raleigh Saturday,
October 25, to face Christopher Newport University and Ferrum
College across town at Meredith College. The Pacers begin
play at 2:00 pm. See you on the sidelines!
