Cougars Sweep Pacer Volleyball

Danville, VA-Peace College (9-12, 4-6 USAS) lost a three-set sweep to the USA South's Averett University (17-8, 10-2 USAS) in tonight's league action.  The Cougars currently sit in second place in conference standings.  Peace remains in the middle of the pack with just a little over two weeks remaining in regular season play.

Averett opened set one with an 8-3 lead.  Peace fought back and managed to get within two at 23-21.  The Cougars sealed the 25-23 set win on a kill from Shannon Andy who led all hitting .571 on the night.  She helped her team finish with a team percentage of .453, which would be the difference in the match.

The hosts made quick work of a 25-10 set two victory.

The teams tied the score on seven occasions in the third set, and Peace remained competitive securing the lead three times.  The Pacers came within one point of Averett late in the set at 19-18 before Jesse Jones capped the 25-18 win for the Cougars on a five-point service run.

Elizabeth Evanoff (Manns Harbor, NC) and Kaitlin Craven (Southern Pines, NC) led Peace hitting .500 and .429, respectively, in a combined 15 attempts.  Teammate Leah Chandler (Chapel Hill, NC) earned a team-high six kills in the loss.  Maggie Wright (Louisburg, NC) and Bree Crook (Reno, NV) recorded five digs apiece for the Pacers, with Crook adding 16 assists.

Peace hosts Salem College Thursday in this year's Dig Pink event.  Fans are asked to wear pink and cheer green at the 7:00 pm match.  The team remains home Saturday with a USA South tri-match hosting Shenandoah and North Carolina Wesleyan beginning at 11:00 am in the Hermann Center.  See you on the sidelines!
