Peace Volleyball Takes a Hit from DII Elizabeth City
Elizabeth City, NC-The Peace College (10-15) volleyball squad took a quick 3-0 loss to the NCAA Division II's Elizabeth City State University (18-12) in tonight's final non-league match of the season.
The Vikings dominated the offensive effort in set one hitting .423 to the Pacers negative percentage, and took a 1-0 lead on a score of 25-8.
The Peace attack remained ineffective in the second and Elizabeth City took an early 7-1 lead. Down by ten at 22-12, the Pacer setter Olivia Griffin (High Point, NC) pulled her team within six, but a service error led to a three-point run from the hosts to seal the 25-16 win.
In set three Peace finally managed to challenge the Vikings. The opponents were tied for the ninth time at 10-10 before Ashley Tarasoff served her team to a six-point lead. The Pacers continued to battle scoring six of the next eight points. But Elizabeth City's offense once again took control of the match with six kills and one service ace to finish off Peace for good.
Alexandra Parker (Weaverville, NC) and Elizabeth Evanoff (Manns Harbor, NC) led what little success the Pacers enjoyed on offense hitting .214 with a combined 10 kills. Bree Crook (Reno, NV) added five kills and five assists.
The Vikings Jennifer Hendy and Xie'Ara Smallings tallied seven kills apiece on .545 hitting to put Peace away. Teammate Lia Scott notched 11 digs and recorded the two match winning kills.
Peace travels to Greensboro College Wednesday and then to Christopher Newport Saturday to face the hosts and Ferrum. The team returns to the Hermann Student Center Tuesday, October 27, for a second chance at the Avenging Angels. Head Coach Kevin Daniels and his team will celebrate senior Evanoff's contributions to the program just before the match kicks off at 7:00 pm. See you on the sidelines!
