Greensboro, NC-The Peace College (11-15, 6-7 USAS) volleyball team earned a 3-2 win on the road tonight over Greensboro College (5-26, 3-10 USAS). The Pacers remain in a tie for fifth in conference standings with cross-town rival Meredith College.
Peace opened the match with a solid six-point lead over GC at 10-4. The hosts battled back to within two before Peace went on a 6-2 run to move back to a comfortable lead at 16-10. Brittany Hunsucker helped The Pride take a one-point lead at 23-22 on a four-point service run late in the set. The Pacers leading offender on the night Alexandra Parker (Weaverville, NC) gave Peace the lead after a service error from Megan Melchiorre (Durham, NC) tied the game for the second time. An attack error from Greensboro completed the 26-24 set win to give Peace a 1-0 match lead.
The Pacers maintained better control of set two to take a 2-0
lead on a score of 25-14. Unfortunately, Peace sat back on
its heels and allowed Greensboro to tie the match on a two-set
rally with scores of 25-12 and 25-18.
But the quick deciding set was all Pacers. PC bounced back to
fend off the hosts rally. The Pacers took an early 6-2 lead
on a service run from Amber Lowe (Cedar Grove, NC).
Greensboro bounced back scoring four of the next six points to come
within two, but three kills from Parker and two from Lowe helped
Peace seal a 15-7 set victory to take the win.
Parker earned top billing in tonight's win with 12 kills in 23 attempts (.391). Melchiorre earned nine kills and tallied a team-high 11 digs. Bree Crook (Reno, NV) notched 22 assists in the win.
Greensboro's Brittany Hunsucker and Karen Riffanacht recorded 10 kills apiece. Emily Thompson notched 11 digs and teammate Sha McDuffie earned 29 assists to lead the match.
Peace travels to league-leader Christopher Newport Saturday to face the hosts and Ferrum College. The Pacers are slated to begin at 3:00 pm. Join Coach Kevin Daniels and his team as they celebrate senior Elizabeth Evanoff (Manns Harbor, NC) Tuesday, October 27, just before the Pacers faceoff against Meredith during the final home match this season. Game time is slated for 7:00 pm. See you on the sidelines!
