Raleigh, N.C. - The Peace Pacers (3-5, 2-1 USAS) split their competition in today's USA South quad-match at host Meredith College. Christopher Newport (9-1, 2-0 USAS) made quick work of PC winning 3-0 with scores 25-10, 25-12, 25-16. Peace completed the day with a 3-0 sweep of Ferrum College (0-7, 0-2 USAS) with scores 25-6, 25-16, 25-14.
The difference versus the Captains was hitting. CNU notched 36 kills in 81 attempts (.346) compared to just 13 kills in 69 attempts (-.072) for Peace. Christopher Newport's frontline defense tallied 12 blocks to the Pacers' 4 to seal the win.
The Pacers rebounded quickly and dominated the Panthers 25-6 in the opening set. After a sloppy middle set, Peace completed the three-set victory with ease.
Taylor Johnson led Peace with 13 kills on the day. Teammates Amber Lowe and Lauren Naugle joined the action with seven apiece and combined for 39 digs, nearly half of PC's day total. Kaitlyn Craven tallied six kills versus the Panthers and First-Year Hunter Narron earned three service aces and eight digs against FC.
CNU's Kara Elder led all with 10 kills in 20 attempts, adding two blocks. Libero Abby Hodge grabbed 15 digs. Ferrum's Chelsea Ellerbe notched 15 digs in the Pacer win.
Peace travels to Greensboro Wednesday evening to face the league leading Pride in a 7:00 pm USA South match. GC swept Peace at The Pride's invitational in early September.
