Volleyball drops conference opener

Raleigh, N.C. - The Peace Pacers opened their conference season in Volleyball Wednesday night and dropped a 3-1 (22-25, 29-27, 14-25, 16-25) decision to the Averett Cougars in a match hosted at the Hermann Student Center.

The first set was knotted at 22-22 before Averett's Aaron Paige closed the door for the Cougars.  The highlight of the match for Peace was its performance in the second set.  Trailing 19-15 with the Cougars having won the previous four points, the Pacers came back to forge a 25-25 tie.

A kill by Amber Lowe tied the game again at 27-27 and then Lowe won the next two points to give Peace the win.

The big effort in the second set seemed to take a lot out of the Pacers for the rest of the match.  The Cougars won the third set handily and Averett was able to rally from a 12-5 deficit in the fourth to win by nine, with Allison Sparks winning the final seven points.

Lowe and Lauren Naugle led Peace with 11 kills apiece.  Taylor Johnson had four aces while Olivia Griffin tallied 20 assists.

The next action for the team is Friday in Ferrum, when the Pacers will take on the Panthers and the Christopher Newport Captains, with the first match starting at 2:00 PM.
