Former Pacers come home for Alumni Volleyball game

Raleigh, N.C. – Sunday was the Alumni Game for the William Peace University volleyball team as the current squad faced off against six former Pacer athletes in an exhibition match.  The match also served as the debut game for the new gym at the Hermann Student Center.

Lynette Monroe, Jordan Morris Wood, Samantha Pendergraft, Brandi Pinnell, Stephanie Pinnell and Regina Shantz were the former Pacers who gave the current squad everything they could handle. Despite not having any subs and no longer being tournament-tested, the former Pacers battled the current squad on near-even terms.

The 2012 team won the first two sets and the decision was made to play the third one as a deciding set, meaning the teams would switch sides after one squad got to eight points and that the set would be over at 15, rather than 25 points. The alumni reached 15 points first but decided to play on until 25 points, allowing the current team a chance to come back to take both the set and the match.

The 2012 team has its first home match Tuesday when it hosts the St. Andrews Knights at 7:00 PM.
