Spirits avenge earlier loss to Pacers

Raleigh, N.C. – After sweeping a tri-match their last time out, the William Peace Pacers had high hopes to continue their winning streak. But the Salem Spirits came into the Hermann Center and emerged with a 3-2 win Wednesday night.

Earlier this season, the Pacers went to Winston-Salem and came away with a 3-0 win. In the return engagement, Peace used a starting lineup that rested several of their stars, including Lauren Naugle and Brooke Norris. Without their upperclassmen on the floor, the Pacers dropped the opening set, 25-23.

It looked like things were back to normal in the second set, as Peace earned a 25-18 win. But Salem turned the tables in the third set, as this time they were victorious by that same 25-18 margin.

Determined not to lose on their home floor, the Pacers played their best set of the match in the fourth and they came away with a 25-12 win to force a deciding fifth game.

In the final set, the visitors jumped out to a 10-5 advantage. After a timeout, Peace came roaring back and took an 12-11 lead. After the two teams traded a point, the Spirits ran off the final three points to win the match.

Despite not starting the match, Norris led the team with 24 assists and Naugle finished with a team-high 10 kills. Nicole Ciaramitaro played a strong game around the net, as she finished with 4 solo blocks and 4 block assists.

The Pacers return to action Saturday, as they host Ferrum and Methodist in a tri-match with the first game slated for an 11:00 AM start.
