#2 Greensboro Wins USA South Softball Championship
Burlington, NC -- The 2nd-seeded Pride of Greensboro College defeated 4th-seeded Ferrum 1-0 in today's USA South conference championship softball game. GC needed an extra inning to get an RBI-single from catcher Brittany Parsons for the win.
After a scoreless seven innings, Greensboro's Brittany Teer led off in the bottom of the eighth with a single through the left side. Tournament MVP Rebecca Pink moved her to second on one of her three hits on the day. Both advanced an extra base on the throw from right field.
All-tournament outfielder Meagan Farrell's throw from right reached third in time to send Teer to the dugout. Parson's line drive to center scored Pink to win the game and secure the 2010 championship and automatic qualifier to the NCAA's.
Greensboro's Brittany David, an all-tournament pitcher, shutout the Panthers on six hits, striking out just two. Allyson Stevens of Ferrum entered in the top of the eighth and took the loss.
