#4 FERRUM ELIMINATES #8 NC WESLEYAN, 9-4
BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Ferrum College eliminated 8th-seeded North Carolina Wesleyan with a 9-4 victory over the Battling Bishops in Saturday morning’s USA South Tournament action. The 4th-seeded Panthers erased a 4-3 deficit with six runs in their final at-bat to advance in the loser’s bracket. Ferrum will now face the loser of #2 Greensboro/# 3 Methodist in an elimination game at 2:00 p.m.
Tied at 3-3 entering the sixth, the Bishops went ahead 4-3 on a two-out, bases-loaded walk to Brittany Nichols. Ferrum, however, answered with three straight hits to open their half of the frame to once again tie the score. The Panthers went on plate five more runs on two hits and an NCWC fielding error.
Ferrum’s Shelbie Hall (13-5) earned the win in relief, allowing one run on two hits over three innings pitched. Ashley Driver (5-13) suffered the loss for Wesleyan, giving up nine runs (seven earned) on seven hits in six complete.
At the plate, Meagan Farrell led the Panthers with a 2-for-3 performance and three runs batted in. For NCWC, Kate Braun was 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
